Every piece in Freano is a melody that has been in the public domain for more than a century — folk songs, carols, nursery rhymes and classical themes. Here is the full list with the tempo and difficulty the app uses. We write the left-hand parts ourselves, so the both-hands versions are free to use too.

Questions about the pieces

Are the pieces really free?

Yes. All 48 pieces are unlocked from the first launch. There is no premium tier, no subscription and no ads.

Why only old music?

We only include melodies published more than a hundred years ago, so every piece is in the public domain. Newer songs would need a licence, and we would rather keep the app free.

Which piece should I start with?

Hot Cross Buns uses only three keys, and Mary Had a Little Lamb only four. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is the first piece with a left-hand part. Then move on to the medium pieces such as Ode to Joy.

Can I play with both hands?

22 of the 48 pieces have a left-hand part. You learn the right hand, then the left, then both together — the piece waits until you press both keys.
